Michelle Pfieffer and Anne Hathaway, twenty years apart.

My second Dark Knight Rises piece on here. I enjoyed Hathaway's Selina Kyle, she was a lot closer to the character in the comics than Burton's kinky 1992 version.

I don't see the current costume replacing the iconic Pfeiffer pvc/stitches look for the fans though :D

A better look at Batman Returns Catwoman

Very well done. I think bot actresses did a wonderful job. Michelle was more like a misfit while Anne was more like a classic femme fatale. But either way, both were mirror images of their respective Batman. I love both takes and this art you made.

Thank you very much!
And I tend to agree on how each version reflects the Batman, too :) It always seems to me like the Nolan version is based on the comics, while the Burton version was his own personal interpretation

I think you are right--the Tim Burton catsuit IS iconic, and I just wonder why they felt the need to have Anne's hair flowing in the wind and I feel like there isn't even enough "Cat-ness" to the new suit. But I am willing to give it a shot. Still haven't seen it yet!!

This is wonderful, though, really love it! I'm postin' this on dA so others can see it!

Hathaway's Catwoman is a very good version of the character  Very close to the comic version. The Burton Catwoman is way more memorable and iconic, that costume has remained popular for twenty years, which I don't think the new one will. She does act in a Burton-ized style though, which would not fit in TDKR.
You should definitely see it if you haven't already. I wasn't sure about Catwoman's whole look, but by the end I was won over :D
And you mean tumblr, right?

How lovely! This is a really great comparison between the two. You've definitely done a fabulous job capturing their likenesses and I love the overall style of it. It's pop art. Looking at the Pfeiffer Catwoman, I can practically hear that voice of hers (which was in part inadvertent on her part since that costume of hers was a torture device that gave her migraines and cut off her breathing). I love the milky white skin and all the stitches look spot-on. That said, I find my vision drawn to Hathaway's Catwoman in this piece. Perhaps it's because there's more skin showing so the focus of light goes towards her or maybe it's because she's got more colour going on. I don't know. But I think you did a great job with her as well. I particularly like the texture you've chosen in order to mimic her costume from the film. I also like the texture of her hair, it's really neat.

Like you, I enjoyed Hathaway's Catwoman as well. I thought she did a fantastic job with the material given to her (my one critique being that there wasn't enough of her) and I actually like what she brought to the role. She was so much closer to the source text than any previous live-action Catwoman had been. While Newmar/Merriwether/Kitt's Catwoman was pretty much the goofy Catwoman that was in the comics at the time, Hathaway's Catwoman is essentially the one we've seen for the past thirty years which is great to see. I love Pfeiffer's Catwoman too. I thought she was fantastic and is such an icon in that role. I can recite all her lines while watching the movie and get those nostalgic fuzzies when it comes to her as Catwoman. However... she's kind of only Catwoman in name. Objectively speaking, her origin is goofy (come on, dumpy secretary gets brought back to life by cats? Really? So silly!) and she's not even a thief. What I loved about Anne Hathaway's portrayal was that we were FINALLY given a portrayal of the character that catered to the fans who had been reading the character in the comics. I grew up reading Catwoman's solo title(s) so I loved that I saw the character come to life -- she was funny, sexy, badass and even emotional. A lot of people pre-judged Hathaway in the role prior to seeing her on film and there's been so much negativity heaped towards her which I ultimately think is unfair. She may not have had the most iconic of costumes (Nolan and his team made a mistake by borrowing too much from the Newmar look... which itself borrowed too much from the iconic Emma Peel) but she was classy and sophisticated. I think I'll shut up now. XD

Wow! Thank you for such a considered comment!
I completely agree on your appraisal of the Pfeiffer/Hathaway portrayals. Pfeiffer was awesome, but more a figment of Burton's imagination than the character in the comics, even in 1992.
Hathaway did look a little like Newmar et al, though I thought the 'new' Catwoman should have a ladies biker jacket look, if you see what I mean. The goggles/ears are ingenious, though :D
On the artistic front, thank you so much! I tend to notice Hathaway first also, I think because I drew her looking forward  Her costume texture is something I made for a Spider-Man picture and have been looking for an excuse to use it again. I may post it in scraps :)
Thanks again for taking the time for such an in-depth comment!

No problem! :) I enjoy writing longer comments and showing my appreciation for the art and the hard work that went into making it.

Yeah, that's always been my biggest issue with Pfeiffer's Catwoman. I love her and I absolutely adore that movie but it's so far from the source text. What is Catwoman's essential mythology? She's a cat-themed thief. Pfeiffer was only cat-themed. As such, I definitely preferred the context of Hathaway's Catwoman much more since it adhered more to Catwoman's essential mythologies. Though it would have been nice if she had a more unique catsuit. Not sure about a biker jacket though... I still like a catsuit with a mask best for Catwoman.

Nice job on this! I liked Hathaway's Catwoman (kinda reminded me of Julie Newmar's) :D

I agree- nothing can top those sexy stitches :XD:
